The spring equinox marks the official transition from winter to spring in the Northern Hemisphere. On this day, daylight and darkness are in perfect balance and this seasonal shift is an invitation to embrace renewal and growth. When we invite our kids to celebrate seasoal changes, it helps them connect with nature and embrace and not fear change.
Here are five ways to celebrate the spring equinox with kids.
Get Outside and Explore Nature As the days grow longer and the earth awakens, take kids outside to observe the signs of spring. Go on a nature walk and look for budding flowers, chirping birds, and fresh greenery. Download our Signs of Spring Scavenger hunt and bring it along for added fun!
Germinate seeds. Gather seeds for greenery you'd like to see if your garden or flowerpot this spring! I find this article from Gardening Know How to be super helpful if you need tips for how to get started.
Decorate a tree. This activity is always engaging for explorers of all ages, adult ones too! Simply put a piece of tape around a tree, it can be clear packing tape, kraft tape, whatever you have on hand (regular wrapping tape likely won't work as well) so the sticky part is facing away from the bark. Add nature treasures such as flower petals, leaves and twigs!

Spring Picture Books. Head to the library and gather some of our favorite reads! Host a forest friends tea party and bring your favorite book to share with your friends!

Attend our Spring Equinox Potluck! Bring a favorite dish to share, your own utensils and plates (cute picnic baskets not required) and connect with us over good conersation and a few fun activities. We'll have coffee and a few take home activities for all explorers, grown-ups, too! Please register by clicking on the image below so we know how many friends to anticipate!
